Boot camps are created for those types of troubled
teen that are not obedient, defiant, out of control,
unruly and have no manners. The boot-camps are military
style school where above type of students are treated
for their treatment. The parent use that boot camps
when they are fail to deal with their teen and they
don’t found any other way for their modification.
They send their teen to a boot camp with a wish that
they can change their teen’s behavior through
their strict rules. At these boot camps, the theory
is that these teens will learn discipline and structure
through some military exercises, and stringent physical
training. The purpose of boot camps for troubled teens
is to straighten the struggling youth and introduce
some obedience and attitude changes within.
Boot Camps for teens are short term, typically 30
to 35 days. Teens get a good exercise program going
during the boot camp. The teens that do not have any
behavior or emotional problem can also go for boot
camp. They can get relief from their schooling environment
tension and able to get a peaceful place which may
help those to get a little wake up. These camps were
also run by private organizations, as worried parents
would send their children away to military school
in the hope that the stern discipline and system of
punishments would make their child more conforming
to the rules of school and society.
Boot camps are very similar to wilderness programs
and some of them have grown in popularity. Boot camps
are considered by parents as a good option for their
teens that are no more influenced by negative and
bad behavior. However, teens that have developed bad
habits over long period of time would benefit more
from long-term options that range from 10-16 months.
Long-term options have the ability to replace bad
habits with positive, constructive habits that will
benefit the teen throughout their lives. Physical
and mental evaluation should be done locally prior
to sending your teen to a boot camp. The boot camps
try to help a teen learn to deal with life without
his or her medicine. The camps seem to have pretty
good success with a philosophy based on structure
and discipline.
The help from boot camps are:
• Treatment for ODD, ADD and ADHD
• Help to control anger
• Help to modify self control, discipline and
respect
• Suicidal tendencies
• Help running away teenagers
• Leaving alcohol abuse
• Leaving the property of lying and stealing
• Help for teen who are failing in school
Teen Boot Camps are short term and due to their short
term period they do not provide treatment. Due to
their short term they can not be able to invite the
outsider and their services for the treatment of their
emotional and behavioral problems. The time period
of thirty days is not long enough time to make good
changes in their behavior. Mostly boot camps have
not their uniform for their cadets. A true teen boot
camp will include uniforms, marching in formation
as well as a "yes sir" and "no sir"
mentality. This may provide them a very structured
environment that may became able to the teenagers
to talk someone getting right in the face.
There are two types of boot camps offered in our
society, one is governmental and other is private.
The private based boot camp gets more facilities than
in comparison of government. So the parent needs to
drop their teenagers to the private boot camps. A
good program includes excellent academics in which
a teen can succeed for positive discipline methods
within a structure of caring not punishing adults,
and family counseling to maintain the positive changes
that occurred during the program. Although the boot
camps are not more successful because of their shortage
of timing but some times they gets a good result for
proving them best.
Abundant Life Academy is the alternative to the
traditional boot camp for troubled youth. Essentially,
boot camps don't work, unless of course you intend
for your child to be prepared to enter a combat zone
with the US Military. It is true that while the troubled
youth is actively participating in the therapeutic-style
boot camp they will perform well, but as soon as they
return home your troubled youth will be twice the
monster they were before they entered. Why? Because
the pressure to perform will no longer be there to
compel the troubled youth to comply.. The problem
with boot camps for troubled teens is that they are
an external pressure. there is very little internal
change. Typically, the student of a boot camp does
not intellectually or emotionally grasp the importance
of the value of change. They don't know why they should
change their behavior, only that if they do comply
with the pressure to perform the will be rewarded.
This is called, "behavioral modification". Behavioral
modification works well with puppies (potty training),
but is not effective with troubled teens. There is
very little long-term benefits to the boot camp experience.
